Description

Originally published in the United States by the title The Young Midshipman. A coastal fishing lad secures the interest of a ship owner in a heroic act. He is then placed as an apprentice on board one of his ships. In company with two of his fellow-apprentices he is left behind, at Alexandria, in the hands of the revolted Egyptian troops, and is present through the bombardment and the scenes of riot and blood-shed which accompanied it.
