Description

Most lovers of American history are fully aware of the deep relationship between Stonewall Jackson and Robert E. Lee, and a whole host of military figures, both before, during, and after the War Between the States.

However, the last twelve years of Jackson's life were shaped mostly by his intimate association with some of his dearest friends: many of the finest Presbyterian pastors of the times. Among them:
The well-known historian, J. William Jones; Dr. William White, Jackson's pastor in Lexington and probably his foremost mentor in the faith; Rev. James Graham, to whom Jackson entrusted the care of his wife in 1862 while he was off at war; Dr. Moses Hoge, to whom Jackson gave a pass to travel at will with his army and whom he sent to Europe to obtain Bibles for soldiers; and Robert Lewis Dabney, who was Jackson's chief of staff for a time. These were Stonewall Jackson's preacher-friends, to whom he felt indebted and who molded his life to an uncanny degree.
