Perhaps the most meaningful and complete book on the subject of the personal presence of Jesus Christ with His people ever written, finally back in print! No ordinary book of memoirs concludes with the promise: "I am with you always, even to the end of the world."
But the biography of Jesus is no mere commemoration of a departed person; His promise makes the gospel accounts each a book of living history. "Take the Gospel record in your hands," says Hugh Martin, "and you have the means of causing you to realize Christ's presence." Whether you are burdened, anxious, failing, sorrowful or hardened, Jesus' promise means that His perfect words come with power to people in every condition and that He is present with His people in every situation.
Introduction by Dr. Sinclair Ferguson. Click on "additional information" (below) for Ferguson's book review.
"Hugh Martin takes us to vantage points other authors miss or never thought of ascending. He leads us to a fuller and richer understanding of the person, ministry, and sacrifice of Jesus - and with that, a deeper faith and a more fervent love for Him,
Hugh Martin (1822-1885) was born in Aberdeen and graduated there with highest honours in Mathematics but felt a call to the Christian ministry. He became the first preacher in the new denomination of the Free Church of Scotland. He wrote several other important books, among which are:
* Christ's Presence in the Gospel Narrative * The Atonement * The Shadow of Calvary
Hugh Martin was described as a warm-hearted theologian who was a mentor to Thomas Chalmers, Horatius Bonar, and Robert Murray McCheyne.
