Description
A book to help fathers walk their sons through one of the most important conversations of their lives. "The Talk" is much broader than just a talk about sexuality; it's a conversation about manhood, about right decisions, about Christ.
Time for The Talk will assist you in giving your son what he needs through the moral and spiritual confusion of this world and make wise, godly, character-forming decisions. You will be equipping him to enter true manhood — a passage that many young men today never make.
This book not only provides a complete framework for discussing the key areas of manhood that every boy should learn from his father; it also guides you into developing a relationship based on truth and love that will endure for life.
"According to researchers, over 60% of boys from Christian homes never receive 'the talk'. Many dads want to have 'the talk", but feel so ill-equipped that they never get to it. Dads - and Moms! - Steve Zollos has come to your rescue. This book is comprehensive, insightful, biblical, gospel-centered, and above all, doable." -- Tedd Tripp, pastor and author of Shepherding a Child's Heart

In a way I started writing Time For The Talk 22 years ago, when my wife gave birth to our first child…a boy! Truth be told, it really didn’t matter much to me whether our first was a boy or a girl. Being there and playing a role in his birth was nothing short of experiencing a miracle first hand.
We named my son Stepheno Anthony Zollos, after me, and my grandfather and brother who were both named Anthony. It was one of the proudest moments of my life. I couldn’t help but cry when my wife and I held him for the first time. What a glorious event. What a sacred moment. What a magnificent responsibility the Lord had given us – to raise up a child in the fear and admonition of the Lord. Not a dog, cat, or a car – but a real live person.
Since then we have watched this miracle unfold four more times, each as beautiful as the first. I cannot conceive of a greater love than that of a father for his children. Everything I have done since the moment that Stepheno was born has been directed at raising my children in the fear and admonition of the Lord.
We have been deeply involved in our church. The kids rarely missed a church service and I have coached many of their sports teams along the way. We have monitored their viewing habits, walked them through fun times and difficult times. We’ve laughed heartily and cried intensely, all in an effort to build their character and teach them the way they should go so that when they are older they do not depart from it.
I realized when my sons reached their teen years that things were changing – they were growing up. It didn’t take long for me to figure out that all the things that I had been teaching them since they were born would either take hold now or be left behind with their childish ways. It was seemingly in the blink of an eye – time for the talk.
Think about it. Everything that you teach your son from that first glorious day on is ultimately aimed at one moment in time. That day that he launches into manhood. I wanted to get this right, so I searched the shelves of my church bookstore, but found nothing directly applicable. Then I directed my attention to the local bookstore for information on the subject. To my dismay the books that I found there neglected character as an important part of manhood and they were packed with downright ungodly content.
I was glad I found these ungodly books before my son did. So I put together my own script for having "The Talk" with my sons and that’s what you’re getting in Time for The Talk.
It’s not a word-for-word script for giving the talk, but it was not my intention to write a book that would give your son The Talk for you. It is designed to assist you in giving The Talk to your son, your way, for his benefit, and for God’s glory. I hope Time For The Talk will be helpful and that this blog will open communication between fathers that will assist each of us as we seek to help our sons become men who are commended by the Lord.
