Walking by the Spirit is the first study in the Growing in God curriculum. Growing in God is a scriptural discipleship curriculum focused on Christian living, designed specifically for youth.
In this first study, disciples will learn the basics of Christian living. We have been called to crucify the flesh with its passions and desires and instead walk by the Spirit, living in accordance with God and His Word. As we walk by the Spirit, He produces fruit in our lives. Lessons within this study emphasize each aspect of the fruit of the Spirit while giving attention to practical life application. It is our hope and prayer that you would put off the flesh and instead live by the Spirit so that the fruit of the Spirit might be evident in your life.
The first section of this study is entitled, “Do Not Walk by the Flesh.” All people are born living by the flesh and because of this, they deserve death. However, there is hope in Jesus Christ through His sacrifice. Only in Him can a person have salvation and be enabled to put off the flesh.
The second section, “Walking by the Spirit,” covers:
* The importance of walking by the Spirit
* How to walk by the Spirit
* The results of walking by the Spirit
* When a person walks by the Spirit, he or she lives in accordance with God and His commands.
The remainder of this study is focused on the fruit that is produced in the life of a believer as he or she walks by the Spirit. Galatians 5:22-23 says, “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.” Each section of lessons will emphasize a different aspect of the fruit of the Spirit while giving attention to practical life application.
The Growing in God curriculum can be used by parents who desire to teach their children God’s Word. Parents can adapt lessons to teach their children of any age.
Parents can use the workbook as Bible curriculum, for Bible study, or for family devotion. Parents can use one workbook to teach from, having their children answer questions aloud or on paper.
The Growing in God curriculum can be used by students for their personal Bible study and devotions.
Students in Jr. High and above can complete the lessons on their own. Students will use their own personal workbooks for study, recording truths learned and life application. Parents can continue and follow-up with the teaching by using the Family Guide.
The Growing in God curriculum can also be used in the church setting.
* Teachers can use the curriculum to teach a Jr. High or High School Sunday School class.
* Disciplemakers can use the curriculum as an aid to help them disciple another.
* Bible Study teachers and Home Fellowship leaders can use the curriculum for their class of any age.
